What are my Healthcare Rights

On the last Tuesday in May we were pleased to welcome Angela Moore, Complaints Advisor and Promotional Agent from CAAP-Estrie (Centre d’assistance et d’accompagnement aux plaintes – Estrie) to our Resources for Seniors Seminar. She presented a well-attended session on the rights of health care users in the Estrie Area. She gave us with some information to share here on the Village Blog!

What is the role of the CAAP?

Help the user (or their legal representative) throughout the process when they decide to make a formal complaint

 

What services do they offer?

-  Inform and refer

- Listen and identify the subject of the complaint

- Inform the user of their rights and on the complaint procedure

- Help the user to prepare their file and to write their complaint

- Assist the user during the process and accompany them during meetings, if they wish

*All services offered by the CAAP are free, confidential and professional

 

What facilities fall under the complaint process?

CHUS, Hospital centres

- Readaption centres

- Youth centres

- CHSLD & Certified Private residences for seniors

- CLSC

- Community organizations (financed by the CIUSSS de l'Estrei-CHUS)

- Ambulance services

- Intermediate resources

 

What are my healthcare rights?

The right to be informed of the existence of services and resources available in your environment and to be informed on your health and well-being

The right to receive adequate services on all scientific, human and social plans at once, with continuity and in a safe and personalized way

The right to choose a professional and facility

The right to receive the care that your condition requires

The right to give or refuse consent to care

The right to participate in any decision that will affect your health or well-being

The right to be accompanied and assisted

The right to be represented

The right to be accommodated based on what is required for your condition

The right to receive services in English

The right to appeal

The right to access and correct your file

The right to receive end-of-life care

The right to complain under the complaint review process
